Government Advocacy
As far back as the late 1700s business and industry groups have banded together to address collectively, what could not be accomplished individually. That principle was never more apparent than in the area of Governmental Affairs.
It is the Louisiana Hotel and Lodging Assn. that leads this effort representing the Louisiana hotel industry to our congressional representatives in Washington, DC and our elected officials in Baton Rouge. There is no question the number one priority of the Louisiana Hotel & Lodging Assn. is governmental advocacy, both legislatively and regulatory.
The Louisiana Hotel and Lodging Assn. is the lead lobbyist group on behalf of the industry having through the years earned a high degree of respect in the State Capitol. Our association retains a team of lobbyists who have represented the industry for many years, is very familiar with industry issues and operating procedures and is as well very familiar to and with elected officials and state agency heads.
As with all trade associations LHLA maintains a PAC (political action committee) entitled Action Committee for Tourism and Hotels, which is used very effectively to further the cause and positions of the industry.
During the legislative sessions the lobbyist team is present in the Capitol, making sure the industry presence is known, and advocating for and protecting the interest of the industry on all legislative matters.
In addition the staff and lobbyist team is known by state agency heads and Department Secretaries and is very active in representing the members and issues at the administrative and regulatory level.
It is no accident the Louisiana hotel industry is one of the least regulated industries nationwide.
